Gazing Cat
This one of my most popular pieces. Even thought it's relatively small, it provides a sense of "monumentality" that's hard to find with larger scale sculpture. The Gazing Cat also seems to sustain it's power well over time - pieces I've had in the studio for years never seem to lose their energy. I cast each piece in solid plaster and finish them using a process that gives them a soft, aged appearance similar to weathered marble.

The base is simply a solid block of wood (5.5"W x 5.5"D x 5.0"H), painted flat black, with felt pads on the bottom. The the head is also 5" high, making the overall height of the head on the base 10 inches.

This piece looks best if it it positioned somewhere at, or above, the eye level of the viewer. Fireplace mantles, or shelves at approximately the same height, are ideal locations.

The Gazing Cat was originally designed as a stand-alone piece but sometimes people like to use them as bookends. That's fine, but you may need the extra support of a book holder if your books are very large.

Buddha's Cat
This piece came about by accident. I never intended to make copies of it but, in spite of the rough finish, visitors to the studio liked it so much I decided to build a mold and offer reproductions. Since it conveys such a sense of deep meditation, I decided name it Buddha's Cat. These pieces are also cast in solid plaster and are finished using a process that gives them a soft, aged appearance similar to weathered marble.

As with the Gazing Cat, Buddha's Cat looks best if it it positioned somewhere at, or above, the eye level of the viewer. Fireplace mantles, or shelves at approximately the same height, are ideal locations for this sculpture.

New! - In addition to the weathered marble finish, I've decided to start making Buddha's Cat with a light bronze finish and a verdigris patina. See Balzac's Cat, below, to get and idea of what the bronze finish looks like.

Balzac's Cat
This is a strange piece that was also originally modelled in wax. It's another one of those sculptures that I never intended to reproduce, but so many people asked for copies I decide to make some availabe here.

Balzac's Cat is cast in solid plaster and then painted with a bronze-powder paint. Just as with real bronze castings, chemicals are applied to the surface to develop the verdigris patina. The final product is virtually indistinguishable from a normal bronze casting but a lot less expensive.

As you can see in the pictures of the sculpture below, the bust of Balzac's Cat is connected to the solid cedar base via a solid brass rod.

New! - I am now making Balzac's Cat available with a dark bronze finish and a blue patina, in addition to the type with the light bronze finish and verdigris patina that you see in the pictures below.
